Drawing Contest and Zoo Trip

Drawing Contest

On Friday, June 16, Gabriela and Tim put on a Drawing Contest for 70 Ta Kao School students at Koyao Island Resort. Full of excitement, the students and teachers came to the resort at 10am. The Resort donated money to buy supplies and each child received a set of crayons and a drawing book. The students were allowed to explore the resort and choose a part of nature for their work of art. They were given two hours to prepare their masterpiece and they spread out all over the lawn and beach.

The day was a lot of fun and gave the kids a chance to learn English and practice artwork outside the classroom. The winners will soon join Gabriela and Tim on a trip to the Phuket Zoo. The trip will be both fun and educational. Koyao Island Resort will sponsor the entire trip, including transportation, food, and tickets to Phuket Zoo.

Zoo Trip with Ta Kao Students

On Friday, July 7, Gabriela and Tim took the 10 winners from the drawing competition on a trip to Phuket Zoo. They were joined by two Thai teachers from Ta Kao School who informed Gabriela that the children had been waiting at the pier for a full hour before departure time because they were so excited. A local boatman named Bang Yud picked up the group at 8am and took them on the one hour journey from Koh Yao Noi to Phuket. During the boat ride, students drew pictures of the beautiful scenery that can be seen in the Bay of Phang Nga. Under each picture, they wrote a caption in Thai and the teachers helped translate it into English.

After the mini bus transfer to Phuket Zoo, the group of 14 entered the park which was the first time for most of them. The students watched three shows including elephants, monkeys, and crocodiles. Director Suriporn from Ta Kao School had the students draw pictures of their favorite animals and then write the name for them in English.
